Thankful to see that 11ty was removed from the next State of JS survey (per my request): https://github.com/Devographics/surveys/issues/252#issuecomment-2443276622
I maintain that the State of JS is mostly a popularity contest, highly correlated to marketing budgets and VC investment.
TIL stock WordPress only supports a single author for a blog post. Huh.
A fascinating look at Google Fonts from @stoyan shows the median size for variable (Latin-extended) web font on the service is 34744 bytes.
Hefty!

The tragedy of cross posting across multiple social networks is that most don’t bother to give proper attribution to the appropriate accounts on each network.
It’s nice to use “Real Name” but it’s so much better and valuable to the author to use @RealName.

we must *measure* web performance and not rely on how things *feel*—what are we even doing, y’all
this feels like the silliest most mundane thing to say
every time someone says that a web site “feels fast” you must append “on my device” to the statement and a dollar must be placed in the works-on-my-machine jar

Reading breaking changes in a JavaScript framework’s release notes and thinking about all of the web components I published that will just keep working without any upstream third-party maintenance burden.
Web components pay dividends.

Has anyone made a disclosure/content-warning/spoilers web component?
here, let me sum up the web components discussion for you

Reasonable people can agree that “trust your eyes” is not a robust nor repeatable nor scalable real-world method of measuring web performance, right?
…right?
The harmful anti-Web Components rhetoric from JavaScript framework authors is out of control. I almost prefer the React team’s tact of largely ignoring Web Components over this current environment of framework authors saying they “hate web components” and claiming that web components are a “danger to the future of the web.”
Had a ton of fun speaking and watching https://fitc.ca/event/webu24_inperson/ #WebUnleashed today—thank you for having me! I’ll post my slides when I get some time!

Who are some great people to follow if you’re looking to keep up-to-date on web components news and spec discussions?

@westbrook
@claviska@mastodon.social
@leaverou
@konnorrogers
@justinfagnani
@keithamus
@scottjehl
@davatron5000

@timmywil I’m curious if jQuery has seen a web component compatibility maintenance burden?

has matt mullenweg weighed in on web components though
@developit blink twice if you think web component interop is problematic for preact 🫣🫠
if consensus was so easy, we’d all be using React
…wait
Just to be clear, a web standard for authoring components would not exist if it required consensus from popular JavaScript framework authors (and they probably wouldn’t be bothered by that that outcome either). The discussion needs to acknowledge that bias up-front.
JSX: yes
TypeScript: sure
CommonJS & ESM: no problem

Wow, that WP Engine cease and desist is *next level* drama. Looks like Matt Mullenweg texted them to negotiate a fee or he would blow up their spot in his talk at WordCamp. WordPress community, fasten your seatbealts.
