New website launch day! 📮 I handcrafted a super simple new site for myself to better showcase what I do and have a future home for experiments I may want to tinker with. Designed in the browser…
We made a small modification to the leaderboards this time: for scaling and maintenance reasons (this list now includes over 1100 web sites!) the results will only show sites that have scored 400 on Lighthouse. Thanks y’all!

The @socket.dev folks have quickly fixed this!
We have already pushed a fix for this and are clearing out our backlog. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
dunning-kruger is so hot right now
We understand that this is an extension of “do your own research” mentality, right? Access to information has convinced us that everyone is now a generalist and by extension that all generalists can be specialists (without scrutiny or peer review)
If you have zero education, but learn how to ask AI models the right questions , in many jobs you will be able to outperform someone with an advanced degree, but who is unwilling to use Large Language Models.
Just takes a smartphone, curiosity to experiment and a mindset to learn.

Markdown is much better when you use the HTML escape hatch early. When you nest an image in a link `[](url)` the syntax quickly approaches the readability of regex (pejorative)
Love love love that the speed tests on calibreapp.com include a scrubbable timestamp-overlaid video that lets you see (frame by frame) how your web site loaded! This is an *excellent* feature.

I might suggest modifications to the “Limited availability” and “Newly available” tags to include language about whether a feature is progressive enhancement friendly or not!
Consider `accent-color` (Not Baseline) vs. CSS Nesting (Baseline 2023).
Browser compatibility is only a small piece: it’s more important to consider the role it plays and how progressive-enhancement friendly it is.
CSS Nesting requires cross-browser ubiquity: `accent-color` is much safer!
Let’s talk about why Baseline browser compatibility doesn’t tell a complete story about whether or not a feature can be used “safely” by developers.
If you’re in the US federal government and facing blocked news web sites on gov’t hardware — apropos of nothing I might remind folks about Google’s official proxy browser (aka Google Translate).

Works great when you translate a language into the same language.

With type stripping in Node.js and `--erasableSyntaxOnly` in the TypeScript compiler — in my curmudgeonly luddite brain this has *finally* elevated TypeScript as-a-project beyond a minimal tier of long-term stability in the JS ecosystem.
