I wonder if https://caniuse.com/ is planning to remove browsers that haven’t had a release in 10 years (e.g. Internet Explorer)

@philsherry @Fyrd is this a firsthand account?
@zachleat @Fyrd Just speculation based on having worked on some old clunkers in my time. Legacy systems in government departments will always need maintaining and updating, but there isn’t always a budget for rebuilding. Healthcare, financial, and so on. We should help those developers keep things as accessible and secure as possible, it’s the least the community can offer.
If you want firsthand account, I have to support users with IE11, Edge (before chromium) and other old versions of browsers. And I'm looking up stuff on caniuse almost everyday specifically to check if something will work in IE and old Safari
@mr_hedgehog @philsherry @Fyrd appreciate it! 🙌🏻
@zachleat caniuse.com has a little gear symbol that lets you tweak what gets displayed.
@flori nice! It didn’t seem to work to hide IE but I like it!
@zachleat @flori Yeah if you go to https://caniuse.com/ciu/settings#display and select "Filtered" all tables will default to 0.5%+ usage which will also hide IE.
Further customization possible by adding a new browser set under https://caniuse.com/ciu/settings#browsers
@zachleat No plans right now, though I know MDN BCD is thinking about it.
From experience there'll be a number of poor souls to whom the information will still be valuable for some time to come so that's why I'm not in a hurry to do so, might switch to hiding by default first.
@Fyrd @zachleat Four years ago someone thanked me for the IE5.5 coverage on my site. She worked on some godawful SAP system where IE5.5 was still the default browser. In 2019. And no one else had any info about it.
There are niche markets for which access to ancient browser info is important. And it doesn't hurt anyone to keep the info in place.

@Fyrd seems like a good compromise!
@zachleat In principle I'm in favour of not supporting IE, in practice I did it for a site a couple of years ago and quickly received "site doesn't work" support emails from... you guessed it.
