@MightyRedPanda om(sv)g
@zachleat Was it overly complicated or just legit big?
@MightyRedPanda ~1000×1000 raster image embedded inside an SVG
@zachleat 🙃 :picardfacepalm:
@zachleat Classic. One time at a job I discovered that an SVG on our website contained an embedded 1920x1080 image that was a screenshot of our designer's entire desktop. They had cropped it to a tiny region but the software (Illustrator?) had still included the whole thing in the file.
@williamoconnell haha yes—opsec of PDF files have the same concerns! Software-added black rectangles on top leave the original content as-is 😅
@zachleat Once asked a designer to change their icons from PNGs to SVGs. Got this back…
`<svg><image width="100" height="100" xlink:href="data:image/png;base64,kilobytesofpngcode" /></svg>`
@mttkng they showed you the true power of SVG! 😅
@zachleat The sort of web development that assumes everyone has ultra fast internet always makes me grumpy. See also: https://anderegg.ca/2023/10/22/20-megabytes-of-floating-ducks
@gavinanderegg likely just a simple mistake—the rest of the site seems good.
@zachleat Ah, ok. That's good to hear!
@zachleat In the voice of John McEnroe “You cannot be serious!”
@bobmonsour John, forever mad 😅

@zachleat I hope it was just a plain black rect
@nachtfunke how big would a single color PNG have to be to hit 1.2 MB 😬
@zachleat You can probably play Doom on it. Worth it.
@pepelsbey the meatball monsters are coming for us all
