Of these hosts—what are y’all using, primarily? (If other, please reply!)

@zachleat Still using Netlify if only because I don’t want to move dozens of sites to another host. I wish there was an alternative I could get excited about.
@peruvianidol there is definitely room for another player to hop in!
@zachleat I’ve been on Netlify so long (my user number is 5,000-ish), and my needs are so simple, I never really investigated much else after I started using it. My work is also all on Netlify, so it’s convenient.
@zachleat a Dell poweredge in my basement. Fuck the cloud.
@zachleat GitHub Pages is where my personal site is currently.
Digital Ocean is where I prefer to put stuff that needs a server exposed to the general public.
My home servers are where I test stuff and run small apps I build for myself because I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay hosting fees for those.
@zachleat currently using Neocities, and for simpler projects, GitHub Pages.
@zachleat Reclaim Hosting. (It’s CPanel shared hosting but I mostly ignore that and push _site to my file space.)
@zachleat Most of my sites are hosted on cloud VPS instances (either NGINX for static sites or Flask/FastAPI web applications, or Apache+PHP for WordPress). A few are hosted through GitHub Pages, but I've been working on migrating off of that.
I do use CloudFlare for WAF and public SSL cert for web apps. I have audio clips hosted in S3 (served through CloudFront) for one of my sites.

However, for API/backend, I'm primarily self-hosted (RPi racks) or CF when I need global distribution and uptime guarantees.
@zachleat Racknerd for VPS and sr.ht pages for static site ci/cd and hosting.
@zachleat Cloudways is amazing, in my experience. I heartily recommend them for a great balance of power-user features obfuscated behind a friendly UI
@JoshuaHamilton @zachleat ooh! I've been looking for anyone that's hosted eleventy on Cloudways, I only have experience with places like netlify and vercel (although have used CW for WP hosting before).
Is it fairly easy to set up/automate pushes, that kind of thing? I'm not a big server guy but am happy to figure things out, and it might be a good option for a specific case I have.
@zachleat Opalstack, the spiritual successor to WebFaction
@zachleat Digital Ocean
@zachleat Vercel, but that project needs to do all its processing in the EU, so we either have to abandon the edge runtime or switch to something like Fly that can force processing in specific datacenters.
Fly, then Netlify, then Vercel for my personal site. All decent; none really stands out.
@zachleat Netlify for pet projects, Vercel at work
- @zachleat My own.
@zachleat Railway
@zachleat haproxy, nginx & apache httpd
@zachleat I use fly.io a lot these days.
