rude that I can’t have hundreds of desktop browser tabs open without my computer slowing down

the pocket-sized camera computer can do this just fine

@sarajw I was scared to search-engine this but I was not disappointed
@zachleat it has a limit of 500 tabs though 🙄
@matthiasott ought to be enough for anyone
@zachleat one ought to think
@matthiasott (500) tabs of summer
@zachleat @matthiasott more like (zero) tabs of bummer
@matthiasott @eeeps spaces where tabs once were
@matthiasott @zachleat tab groups, you absolute animals
@matthiasott @jgarber ruthlessly attacked with good advice
@matthiasott @jgarber ruthlessly attacked with bad advice
@matthiasott Ack, which option in that screenshot did you tap?
@jgarber New Tab Group from 500 Tabs… 🤷♂️
@matthiasott Woof. Do you see your Start Page in the bottom bar?
@jgarber Only an empty Start Page…
@matthiasott What do you see when you tap that “All 500 Tabs” at the bottom?

@jgarber It looked so exciting I even took a screenshot 😂
@zachleat I still don't understand how people do this, but I grew up with a 1GB ddr2 athlon PC and mostly use my current PC in the same way still.
@Piejacker875 my first computer was 133MHz and you know it had that turbo button 🫠
@zachleat really? I used to use a tab suspender extension but I turned it off and actually things seem fine without it, which is nice, so I assume desktop browsers are doing a similar sort of thing under the covers now. Firefox seems to be anyway!
@sil do you have a better computer than me, stuart
@zachleat on the one hand no, since I bought my machine in 2013. On the other hand maybe since I rammed it full of RAM, haha. On the gripping hand no, since 32GB seemed like the riches of Croesus when I did it but now everyone’s got that much on a thing attached to their keys or whatever. Which browser? This seems like a thing they ought to be competing in
@sil I have an M1 with 16GB of memory 🫣 (my primary driver is firefox)
@zachleat there is no single thing that can improve your computing experience more than filling every single atom of space with RAM. I was mocked for putting loads in and I have been quietly happy ever since. Buy more memory. My machine is an i5 from a decade ago and I’m hardly ever CPU-bound. It’s always memory pressure. People will sneer and say ours more complicated than that, and I’m sure they’re right, but… drown your OS in memory and it makes it happy.
@sil apple charges a lot for memory tho 🫠
@zachleat they do. But firstly I stand by my point that there is nothing you can do which is better than more memory, and secondly, well, you elected to hitch your wagon to a company that charges lots of money for literally everything. That’s part of the deal, no? You gotta dance with the one that brung you. :)
@zachleat plus almost all Creative Cloud apps 🫣😅
@zachleat I just spent $50 to add 16GB of memory to my computer rather than close all my tabs.
@mogul this is what peak performance looks like
