@eleventy Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in on Mastodon and this is my home base moving forward—but I really pushed hard to set an example and cut-off Twitter 100% across-the-board.
I’m learning that this was not entirely tenable for a Brand Account—especially when folks with large follower counts weren’t willing to do the same.

@zachleat @eleventy Yeah this is something I've been thinking about a lot and is really frustrating. The fomo is real, especially for tech twitter, because they're still thriving over there... Occasionally they'll complain about the deterioration of the platform but are still clinging to the audiences and klout they've built. I don't blame them If my engagement on the platform was better I might not of switched...
@zachleat We remove our social selves and reduce Twitter to a brand speaks to brand platform 😜
Speaking of, experimented with another “businessy” platform like LinkedIn?
@zachleat Rome wasn't burnt down in a day, I think is the saying right? :thinkerguns:
You do what you can. It's great that you've gotten on board with Mastodon and as birdturd continues to shoot holes in his boat (and lose a lot of money, daily), this place will become the new norm.
@tripleman I appreciate the support! I will sleep better when it fails 😅
@zachleat @eleventy It's tough for brand accounts to make the move and I think it's a sound strategy to have a presence on both sites for now. There's a very real possibility that Twitter won't exist in a few years, either die to technical or regulatory woes. Creating a mastodon presence steadily now in conjunction with a Twitter one is going to go a long way if/when they finally shut down for good
@zachleat @eleventy I think it's fine to make compromised.
I try to not engage in hyper-consumerism but I still have an Apple laptop and a smartphone, but they're both over 6 years old.
It could be a good strategy to actually have a brand on Twitter for generic comms and then, through convos redirecting more developed content, tips, recipes, etc... on Mastodon.
Can be disappointed that the flood did not happen, but you can still push the waves :)
@zachleat I think it's certainly more complex than first expected for a few reasons: the bird site's size, limitations of federation and the need to maintain contributor relations where the contributors are.
The Fediverse is at about 2010 Twitter at the moment but Space Karen is doing great things to move it forward. Don't be disheartened by the need for a transition period.
@zachleat Also, I'm terrible at social media so what do I know?!
