having a very negative reaction to seeing any condensed serif right now and I know it’s unfair — for me the political bias of Instrument Serif has now leaked into the rest of the category 🥵

it sucks extra because it's a really nice font when used in the right place.
somehow reminded of this too www.jezebel.com/type-artist-...
@zachleat 100%
@zachleat How do you feel about a chunky slab serif?
@stegrainer the chunkier the better imo
@zachleat I mostly use Atkinson Hyperlegible Next these days.
(I had to look up why Industrial Serif was problematic and ... Yuck.)
I don't like sans serif. Literally the whole point of a font is to be able to tell letters apart ...
@larsmb Hyperlegible is such a good name too!
okay not just me then
@zachleat It's especially frustrating because Instrument Serif looks pretty clearly inspired by Apple Garamond, which I've always liked. Apple's 80s–90s branding will always be one of my favorites.
I still have no idea what these goons saw in that typographic style. It's not garish or authoritarian, which is the aesthetic I would have assumed they were looking for.
@csilverman all of right wing silicon valley sees themselves as steve jobs-esque, maybe it’s the exact vibe they are trying to replicate 🤷
