It’s *wild* to me that Google Drive has no option to see how large a folder is on disk 😭

@zachleat Because Google Drive is a data base and not files.
@zachleat if absolutely should have that yeah. One option is mounting it with something like @mountainduckapp which will let you view that like any other folder in finder
@keir @mountainduckapp good tip, I am already using Arq backup here, I just want to see how big the backup folder is without downloading it 😅
@zachleat @mountainduckapp that's a reasonable request that shouldn't be this difficult 😄
@zachleat OMG THIS.
I assume it is because they don’t want you to know how much space something is taking up so it’s not easy to delete when you run out of space and you just purchase more space from them.
@onpaperwings @zachleat yes, thats by design.
@onpaperwings ugh, well I hadn’t even considered that it was a profitbug
@zachleat There's also historically "free" folders that mess things up, for example from Pixel launches where you had unlimited photo storage which back then was somehow internally part of Drive, or Chromebook launches with similar "free forever" cloud storage. All I'm saying is that it's a bit of a mess, and while I fully agree with you that this is something they totally should offer as a feature, it's not that easy when you see how the sausage is made (and I have by no means much insights).
@tomayac complexity all the way down! 🫠
