@raymondcamden @11ty at least 1 more cowbells
we usually swim in alpha/canary releases for awhile, so don’t get too upgrade-happy here 😅
@zachleat @11ty i really don’t know how to describe as anything other than “less magic”. sorry. when i first started using eleventy i couldn’t figure out how sometimes making changes to the basic blog template would result in unsuccessful builds while other times it would work fine. i could only conclude that my mental model of eleventy was wrong and parts that i thought i could control were actually part of the “magic” and would break. this is partially a skill issue on some level. lots of people are able to use 11ty and change basic templates a bunch to suit their needs without running into the feeling i had that my site was somehow fragile and i couldn’t figure out how to implement stuff i wanted to implement without running up against the magic, but it was still something that pushed me away.
something that i really liked about switching to lume is how much more the model felt like regular js, where you could see more of the data moving around. as someone who likes a static site to feel like a series of tubes (push data in, change it, push it out), it was a lot easier to model in my head, and as a result i’ve basically never had a situation where the site didn’t build and i couldn’t figure out why.
For extra curious folks, the big ol’ PR to kick this off merged yesterday: https://github.com/11ty/eleventy/pull/3858

@cferdinandi one too few emojis ;)
@deafferret @zachleat did you figure out what went wrong? did you use the upgrade helper? https://www.11ty.dev/docs/plugins/upgrade-help/
@11ty no, cause I'm an idiot. I almost got it working again last night, entirely my fault.
@deafferret I know with 100% certainty that you’re not an idiot, jay
@11ty oh no! I’m contagious! lol ❤️
