web components are usb-c
react is the lightning cable
thank you for coming to my ted talk

@zachleat this is an alarmingly good analogy. Every time I think about it in a bit more detail it reveals another layer of how well it captures the whole situation
@sil lightning has struck! 😅
the timelines are similar too 🤔

@khalidabuhakmeh a javascript framework to toggle tailwind classes dynamically
@zachleat @khalidabuhakmeh that is a <layer>ed joke
@zachleat "web components are usb-c" This could be a great metaphor! It could also be a truly terrible metaphor that makes web components sound awful!
@awfulwoman well wait I like usb-c 😅
@zachleat *stares in DP Alt Mode*
@awfulwoman @zachleat that would be XML perhaps :)
@zachleat @awfulwoman sometimes web components only carry power, sometimes power and data, sometimes more power, sometimes more data and all possible combinations while looking all the same ;D
@zachleat I understand the spirit of this analogy but at the same time lightning is substantially less technically complex than USB-C
@cbirdsong web components are substantially more technically complex than react as they involve changes to the web platform (though that complexity is abstracted from developers) 😅 (we can belabor it into place)
@zachleat lightning abstracts away a bunch of complexity in how it dynamically reassigns pins depending on the task, but in general as a user i can plug it in and it works, whereas USB-C attempts to do so much more than lightning ever did, and as a result as a user I need to be aware of the power and data throughput capabilities of the two devices as well as the cable itself
@zachleat (I am absolutely not one of those weirdos that actually wanted to keep a lightning port on my phone, but I do recognize USB-C is not an across-the-board improvement for every situation)
@zachleat more like USB-A 😬
@zachleat
backbone is the 30-pin connector
jquery is USB-A
prototype is PS/2@zachleat @divdev All of @teskooano is web components and vanilla - not a lick of a framework anywhere.
This is what's possible - https://teskooano.space
