How old is the oldest (non-personal) software project that you’re still actively maintaining?

I didn’t use en-dash here and I’m ashamed of it
@zachleat I appreciate that you thought about it, even after the fact. Not everybody does!
@chriskirknielsen this ain’t my first typographic rodeo.
I will eat a moderately yummy cookie as penance (because it is only moderately yummy)
@zachleat ~~Pedantry~~ correct punctuation FTW!
@zachleat
Employer started an OSS project around 2004, and still developing on it. I’ve been with them for 8 years now. What does that count towards?@AliveDevil I’d count from the origin date of the project (not when you started maintaining it) — fwiw
@zachleat I have questions. If you gradually replace and update parts of the software project over the years until all parts are replaced... is it still the same project? Is it a Trigger's broom / Ship of Theseus project? The broom reference in case not clear (dated humour): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56yN2zHtofM
@patrick haha, 17 heads and 14 handles — truly a stable and low-maintenance broom
@zachleat I think that goes to Breakpoint, which to my amazement still clocks something like 40k downloads per week
@snugug nice!
@zachleat CouchDB since October 2007 ✌️
@janl hell yeah
@zachleat the team I'm leading now, I've been on longer than most jobs I've had - and we've still got a 3-year plan.
@tanepiper it’s good to have a plan
@zachleat can anyone beat https://packages.debian.org/trixie/bible-kjv ? Initial release 1989-09-05
@demoographics do you maintain that package?
edit: ah, I see your name there. huh.
@zachleat yeah, and I've been effectively upstream for some years now too.
@demoographics just realized I didn’t answer your question 😅 someone weighed in with a spec from 1975!
@zachleat Impressive!
I would have *never* correctly predicted the results of this poll.

@keir yeah! I think this place has a very unique and special demographic
"non-personal" has quite some ambiguity though.
I have open source projects that got created in a professional setting - but I kept maintaining them afterwards.
Does that count as personal or non-personal?
And is that good or bad?
I am still on the fence.

@zachleat
I have a 10-ish yr old npm package that seems to have a life of it’s own.
Recently I noticed it trippled in weekly dl’s.Seems to be caused by a new dependent called eleventy(?) 🤔
The package is https://www.npmjs.com/package/posthtml-match-helper
