@zachleat Truly a system that cares about the value of labor
@maxfenton good thing they haven’t very recently drawn a very big line in the sand on this topic otherwise it would be quite embarrassing for them

@zachleat Putting the "ad" in admin.
this is much different than what WP Engine did because they’re reusing the unlicensed intellectual property of designers and not the openly licensed work of developers so its ok
any product page claiming use of AI without citing the model or what data set was used to train it does not get the benefit of the doubt any more (sorry not sorry)
@zachleat This is absolutely just keyword-based procedural generation.
@shnizmuffin so—random and not trained?
@zachleat yeah it's just a Dungeon Master's Random Encounter Table for Logos.
@shnizmuffin that somehow makes it a *little* better 😅
@zachleat a fairly solid policy.
A lot of my work has included advising startups on tech strategy and they almost always fumble when asked about this.
I normally also tell them to drop focusing on tech on product pages and focus on features.
Who cares if AI is used or a hamster in a wheel as long as the feature works?
@zachleat they’ve also filled their Jetpack plugin full of generative AI shit. Democratize publishing… by filling the web with trash
@cbirdsong slop slop sloppity slop slippity slop AI slop
what could go wrong
@zachleat amazing output, completely viable, no notes.
@shnizmuffin ahahaha and it took *minutes*??
@zachleat Fiverr for the Future!
@brandon @zachleat Yeah it's a sad state of affairs. Wordpress sites is my day-job and it has created a lot of insecurity within the whole ecosystem to see this drama unfold. Things have cooled down publicly now that lawyers are involved.
But it's giving a push to look at all the other alternatives out there for building a great website. Thanks to the both of you we got some solid options to choose from! 😄
@zachleat due to a typo, Wordpress’ ambition is now Fiverr for the Future
