@zachleat thanks for sharing the insight!
This is disappointingly consistent with my recently downgraded expectations for Netlify.
@randomgeek Appreciate you reading and sharing 🙌

@zachleat Regarding minimizing dependencies:
Once I started writing more and more Vanilla JS I feel like there's only a handful of cases I currently would reach out to a library:
- dates
- i18n
- parsing and generating files (CSV, XLS, PDF)
- Fetch (to a degree, because of boilerplate with Bearer tokens and abortion as well as isomorphic code)
- form and API validation (because I haven't figured out an elegant way here yet).Other than that I think it's easier done without a framework.
@zachleat appreciate you speaking out, mustn't have been easy. Thanks for sharing your independent take <3
@hdv appreciate you Hidde!

@zachleat The survey reflects of what our community responded.
Next is the largest framework in usage, clearly reflected in the survey.
But for the first time Next decreased in usage year over year (from 47% to 46%).
Astro jumped from 11% to 18% with 87% responding they want to use it more.
Eleventy dropped from 19% last year to 16% this year.
None of this is an attack on anyone, just data from our survey.
The rise of Astro is one of the most newsworthy bits of data that emerged.
@biilmann appreciate the response!
I hope it’s understood that my issue is not with the data, it’s in how the data was presented—the solo chart was misleading.
@zachleat thanks for calling it like you see it. small language note: I think you meant "milieu" when you said "melee"
@akahn Appreciate it! I intended to say melee https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/melee but maybe I’m missing some diacritics
@zachleat Glad you're not pulling any punches. There's something rotten going on here, not just with Netlify (who're probably scrambling) but with all these hyped-up frameworks. Stay the course.
@tdh Thank you!
@zachleat I’m not angry, I’m disappointed
@zachleat Love the positive relationship you have with “competing” tools. (I know that’s not the main point of this post, it just stood out to me while reading)
@tylersticka Appreciate the kind words Tyler! 🙌
