Was introduced to KDL (from @zkat) by @ollicle and I like it!
Looks like it solves some of the readability problems of TOML and might be a nice successor that finally loosens the unfortunate grip that YAML has on everything 👀

@zkat @zachleat @ollicle ...and i'm back!
here is JALD, a web dashboard/launcher i've been tinkering with off-and-on this year: https://github.com/vfalconi/jald
i use KDL to define the content in each dashboard.
and while we're at it, it doesn't include 11ty, but i also made a KDL-driven scraper for weather data: https://github.com/vfalconi/weather-mon
straight up, slowly but surely, i'm putting KDL into every fun project of mine that has a config more complex than key-pair. love it.
@roguefoam @zkat @ollicle I believe it’d be pretty straightforward to change this today in any Eleventy project. Unlikely we’ll change the Eleventy-wide default though, that’d be too much of a breaking change
@zachleat @roguefoam @ollicle the biggest challenge for anyone trying to replace yaml with KDL is that KDL isn't a JSON-style data representation format. It's node-based, like XML, so you need to handle your data a little differently
@zkat I got into this and discovered exactly what you meant here. Was indeed kinda awkward using an informal subset of KDL. JiK is the medicine!
I revisited KDL in 11ty post 2.0.0 and can report progress:

@ollicle @zachleat @roguefoam oh and, you should also be able to do:
(array) tags fooinstead of having to create children. Idk if that’s js parser handles that case though@zkat ooh, I just tried it. `(array)` indeed works 👏
Thanks, I’ll make an update.

@zkat@toot.catI Yay! I just want the nice things to be friends together. Like fan-fiction for open source.
