         @zachleat pretty much. If he's saying they'd "like to be" a "real" open-source project then what does it make them until then?

            @phae I think there is a general understanding that the super tight coupling of Next.js and Vercel is bad news. But I also suspect that most framework authors would trade spots with Next.js/Vercel, disappointingly—which doesn’t bode well for the next wave either

               @zachleat oh, totes. I have endless sympathy for OSS maintainers both looking for $, distribution and hands.

               I wish this wasn't such a viable model and we could offer better.
