if/when vercel IPOs (some folks are suggesting next year)—how would that affect the react ecosystem?

@dym I guess I would expect that a pre-IPO and post-IPO company would operate differently—but maybe you have a different perspective!
@zachleat Hoping for “BADLY” 🤞
But probably won’t make a difference. Why, do you think it would?
A lot of developers are still “Don’t tar us all with the same brush, some of us only use React because we need to get paid!” …when they actively chose to take that route in the first place because “React Developer” was where the big money jobs were. Selling out your clients and users requires a financial *and* moral decision, who knew?
@philsherry I’m mostly curious. I haven’t worked at a company that went from pre-IPO to post-IPO before so I don’t really know how that changes the culture
@zachleat Ahh, I’ve no personal IPO experience of that side.
I assume you’ve been at a start-up which has suddenly had BIG funding? I’ve been through that, and all the “behave yourself, important people are in the office today” that comes with it. I imagine it’s a seriously grown-up version of that, but the people making the rules are even further removed from areas of engagement, so shouldn’t be making any calls at all. You might be the wrong shade of green, for instance.
@zachleat hard to tell, will probably take a few years to propagate as long as they don't go full Musk and just sack everybody.
@zachleat Don’t know but it’s hard to see the value in an IPO
2021 valuation was 2.5bn, but revenue seems tiny at 25mn in 2022 (https://getlatka.com/companies/vercel)
