I wouldn’t mind a few more Letterboxd friends (I only have 2 😅)
Are y’all on that thing?

@zachleat Heck ya.
@zachleat I have followed you, sir
@zachleat I’ve been a proud Letterboxd user since 2011!

@zachleat Thanks to Letterboxd’s import functionality, I was able to import my ratings from Netflix (from way back when Netflix still had a 5-star rating system), so my movie watching/rating diary goes back to 2005. 👴🏻
@nicksherman Wow! I’m really struggling with half star ratings—should it be a ten-star rating system? 😅
@zachleat I made a conscious decision to only rate movies with full-star integers. Letterboxd seems to recognize that choice and only show 5 separate bars in my rating histogram.
@nicksherman well, that’s lovely—I have so few ratings I’m gonna go back and normalize them—thanks!

@zachleat I followed you, I'm at https://letterboxd.com/nhoizey/ (but not really active yet, using a similar French service)
@zachleat Oh rad, was looking for a site like this. Signed up right away. Thanks for the 🎩
@zachleat I use https://seriebox.com instead sorry 🙃
@zachleat puh, i was just afraid people jumped on mustapp.com, but i like the activity on letterboxd more. i just followed you :)

@zachleat Count me in
@zachleat Just followed :)
https://letterboxd.com/stffndk/@zachleat Hmmm... someone mentioned this to me a couple weeks ago (we were talking about how there's no easy recommendation system built into streaming services & I mentioned thinking about starting an alt Twitter account for micro reviews) & I was all "I dunno if I want a whole other social network..."
But if my peeps are already there, that'd be different, yeah?
You wouldn't happen to be planning a blog post all about what's good/bad/quirky about the service & how to get comfortable quickly?
@AmeliasBrain @zachleat i didn't even know that existed, but would love to read that post if you write it
@bkardell @AmeliasBrain ha! I don’t think I have the time budget to write this post right now—but I will say that I subscribed to pro last night and it has rekindled a sense of community around movies that I had been missing for a long time!
I think the biggest UX confusions for me are: 1. orthogonal features for “like” and 5-star ratings. 2. Why the Diary is anything but your recent activity? When I rate a movie it doesn’t go into the Diary? I don’t understand why 😅
@zachleat @bkardell @AmeliasBrain
I think that rating a movie doesn’t go in your diary so you can backfill or adjust ratings without it assuming you just watched the movie, which generates an item in your followers’ feed and affects your monthly/yearly watch stats.
If you want it to be recorded in your diary, you have log it, which also prompts you to add a rating.
(I don’t get “like” either, but I guess maybe it’s for people who get analysis paralysis trying to rate things on a scale 🤷)
