         Hopefully a well-intentioned misstep. Someone earnestly believing in "offer to pay people when you ask them for developer outreach work" & not understanding that paying for endorsements is very different than paying for work.

         Or as Jason suggested, a 3rd-party agency tasked with increasing engagement & not understanding that y'all aren't Influencers™ in that way.

                     @jlengstorf @zachleat @chriscoyier dang that's real suspect behaviour. Sort of correlates with my theory that people on GitHub are compensated for unstaring and then staring again their repo over and over so it reappears in people's dashboard feeds. Pretty sure I've seen at least one prominent Next.js user do that on the regular
