I’m curious if this is a notification to folks to opt-in to a refollow? Did anyone receive something in Mastodon about this new account?

@zachleat I got a notification that you were following. me from this new account, but since I was already following this one, I didn't get any such invitations to follow.
@zachleat Nothing yet, but I will reply back if/when I see something
@zachleat oh actually, I wonder if I will see anything since I just manually followed you
@zachleat There's no notification about the move happening for your followers. They are just transparently moved from the old account to your new one. (If their software supports it.)
@ondra I like that although this reported differently https://aaronparecki.com/2022/11/05/28/
@zachleat Yep, people you were following will get notified of a new follower but people following you will simply follow the new account instead of the old one.
@ondra a ha! Thank you for the clarification!
@zachleat @ondra eager to see some data later about how a personal instance works for you. Cost, maintenance, DX when following, boosting others. I wonder if Mastodon works better if everyone ends up with a custom instance or what is the ideal state for the network... tons of 100-member instances? There must be some experiments already out there
@patak Mastodon itself is definitely not optimized for single-user experience. (Local timeline are just your posts, you don't see most of the discussion under posts unless you follow the participants etc.)
Personally, I'm eyeing a solution integrating a personal website with ActivityPub similar to the link to @aaronpk's site above... @zachleat
@zachleat I got notification that you followed me from this account?
@zachleat Hmm, it seems I have to manually follow you again here. OK of course! ☺️
@zachleat I didn't receive a notification of the change, but I see I'm now following both of your accounts.
@me well that’s good news, I think? the mastodon.social one should just be a redirect now
