TIL Lighthouse is adding an Agentic Browsing metric:
developer.chrome.com/docs/lightho...
That CLS is listed as a sub-metric seems like a big ol’ code smell to me (and reveals some brittle implementation?): are agents relying on element dimensions?

are we really doing “Agent pls click at 50x,50y”
@zachleat Gonna absolutely use this to make sure my website is as unusable as possible for AI bots haha. ✨
@rgadellaa inb4 AI bots start browsing with JS disabled 😅
Possibly layout shifts creates issues if it uses screenshots in chunks to understand the page.
oof! if you thought HTML took too many tokens in comparison to markdown…
Not sure what you mean ?
that’s the premise of markdown as the lingua franca of agents, no? image processing (screenshots) would be way more resource intensive
Ah got you. Yeah I was surprised when I read some of them read off screenshots. But hey when does ai do things efficiently.
New goal: one zero and four hundos
I think it's more for AI browsers interacting with the page on your behalf. And (like users!) they can get confused/click the wrong thing if content shifts around unexpectedly.
Note I wasn't involved in this project, so take everything I say here as my opinion rather than official fact!
yeah, makes sense. Lots of the same mistakes we were making 20 years ago writing E2E tests 😅

How can I maximize layout shift for agents?
agentic web fonts
@zachleat Lol; so they feel we will be chasing a *good* agentic score?
Hahahahaahaaaaaaa!
HAHAHAAHAAAAAA!
Yes; tell me how badly I hurt you. Please. More detail.
@mattwilcox I am receiving many comments similar to this one 😅
@zachleat agent == 3 selenium processes in a trench coat?
@zachleat I imagine some agents are going to web pages to "see" the layout. They take screenshots and then scan those images. Then they steal your whole vibe and aesthetic probably.
@khalidabuhakmeh do I get to keep my soul or no
WELL THEN!
if web sites start jiggling to combat agentic harvesting I’m out of this industry
it's get super weird
Start? I have bad news, my friend
Feeling exactly the same way. “Make sure you design your site so that we can avoid people seeing it entirely, so our profit”.
Hell no.
Well, no surprise they added this metric 🫠
