Needs more marquee
I can do blink, if that helps
I believe that you can, but I’m not sure how it’s going to help the logo for you to close your eyes at me.
what is hmtl
what’s your writing-mode set to
@zachleat hyper markup text language
@zachleat Howdy There, Mr. Leatherman!
@culturednyc I see what you did there and I chortled
Is this made only from the albumen?
I can only assume this is egg juice
Egg-like plant based egg juice. I have never had it but the logotype has stuck in my mind for some reason
@zachleat also an animal mascot... hedgehog??
@pamelafox YES. so speedy!
[kerning intensifies]
I hope so
use <>
@digitalwire maybe something with a diamond ok it needs work but there is something there
-
@bkardell yeah it is
look, I’m not a designer but @digitalwire inspired something

@digitalwire @zachleat <HTML>
@zachleat @digitalwire is that hashtag machine learning?
@westbrook look, everyone is rightly dunking on my design skill 😅
@zachleat @digitalwire Woah, branding agencies would charge millions for this paradigm shift in synergies that reimagines the classic brackets in movement, releasing the world's Hyper Text Machine Learning code to its full AI potential. (Yes, they would also rename HTML.)
@AlesandroOrtiz @digitalwire oh no
@zachleat I can’t decide if I think HTML’s old logo or XML’s logo is funnier:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Old_HTML_Logo.svgvs.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Extensible_Markup_Language_(XML)_logo.svg
@zachleat how about changing the color to default hyperlink blue?
@tonymottaz don’t fingerprint me!!
@zachleat if you do it like <HTM>L then it stands for html AND css logo as well.
@a40yostudent haha, love that!
@zachleat But we already have an orange 5
@tylersticka orange 5 is the name of kid rock’s maroon 5 cover band
@zachleat I love HMTL's logo though, maybe we can fork it? 😜
@castastrophe I deserve this 😅
@castastrophe @zachleat With narrow monospace medium typo & softer border-width?
@zachleat ok, 28 years later, I have just realised why Hotmail was called Hotmail.

alright, I take everything back — default <h1> is what you get now
@zachleat [norman rockwell man] "all headings should be a single `heading` tag that dynamically adjusts based on nesting"
@maxfenton my sibling in SGML, let me introduce you to the <NEXTID> tag and we can rejoice that it is no longer with us
@zachleat ... `<next-id>` web component when
@maxfenton @zachleat The document outline algorithm was good, actually.
…is a hill I will die on.
@zachleat try a rainbow
some fluffy animals
that improves any logo@zachleat haha make it a self-closing tag and it's a political statement about the state of the web lol
@castastrophe I quit X and XHTML long ago
@zachleat @castastrophe was HE behind XHTML?!?!
[video of gopher turning to the viewer with a shocked expression, three ominous chords play during the short sequence: TAN, TAN, TAAAAAAN]
@zachleat @castastrophe <brrrrrrrrrrr /> !

@kyle hell yeah
the corners are times angle brackets you nerd sniping weirdos
@zachleat This is starting to be 3D. Have you tried making it into the N64 logo and animated it? Please.
@chriskirknielsen how dare you attempt to snipe me further
*backs away slowly*
@zachleat Hey don't you have a 3D printer? I'm just sayin' it'd be preeeeetty cool!
@chriskirknielsen *runs away screaming*
@zachleat (I acknowledge there's no obvious way to seamlessly connect all 4 letters like NNNN, so your running is very justified)
@chriskirknielsen if AI can get away with >5 fingers per hand…
@darby3 I appreciate what you’ve done here
@sstephenson you know what, YES.
@zachleat the bevels are angle brackets!!
@sstephenson YES ×2!
@sstephenson @zachleat *There* it is.
@Meyerweb @sstephenson I agree, consider this matter resolved
@sstephenson @zachleat This is exquisite. No notes.
@jamie @sstephenson @zachleat a reflection of our time
@zachleat for posterity:
@sstephenson @zachleat should/could `<span>` be `<abbr title="HyperText Markup Language>" ?
@maxfenton @sstephenson I added that to https://www.zachleat.com/web/html-logo/ !
@zachleat I do kindof feel like the logo should link to https://html.spec.whatwg.org/ but also fully endorse attribution.
@maxfenton I think that’s probably a better default for wide-scale use, yeah
@zachleat Pretty darn cool logo that does what it says on the tin. I get that browser support of abbr is bad but I still like the way it weirdly adds dotted underlines and fails all over the place.

@sstephenson @zachleat the way this instantly takes me back
I think with this submission from @sstephenson we can consider this matter resolved https://indieweb.social/@sstephenson/116098273597530810
@zachleat @sstephenson — it’s perfect.
@zachleat Are these Cherry MX compatible?
@zachleat I feel like it should be self closing. Like an ouroboros. A snake eating its own tail. Sorry, got carried away here.
@jaycruz in this logo and when writing an HTML parser, you’d never know it was a void element
@zachleat Riffing of @argyleink’s previous attempt (it’s surprisingly hard to search CodePen for “CSS logo” or “HTML logo”, so no link):
- orange box to pay tribute to the HTML5 logo
- HTML in the bottom right corner
- maybe fold the corner to make it have a “document”/“paper” feel?
- could try to incorporate the <> somehow, but it might not fit the other minimal logos (e.g. CSS, JS).@knowler @argyleink was there an HTML one? I only remember this https://front-end.social/@argyleink/113392787497597514
@zachleat @argyleink at some point there was a CodePen that featured the CSS one alongside others that included HTML.
-
@knowler @argyleink I’m on board with this
-
@zachleat it "has* a logo https://www.w3.org/html/logo/ however this stems from html5 branding. The good old times...
@zachleat Looks like a Hat Tip to Machine Learning…the other HTML.
Looks like one of those startup names where they just dropped the vowels from the word to make name
for the official record, with Sam Stephenson’s contribution — we’ve fully resolved this matter over on Mastodon: indieweb.social/@sstephenson...
That is as HTML as it gets honestly.
