it feels important to keep saying: SPA as an app framework default (and not an opt-in feature) was a mistake

It was a mistake and the only way how they could justify their existence.

Yes 100%
One of the early decisions we made for @nordcraft.com was that the defaults should be true to the web.

I guess I'm grateful that solution space has been extremely well explored and thoroughly debunked with data..not that facts matter but still.
facts do matter to people who still care 🫣
hell yeah
"We're recreating everything the browser already gives us. What could it cost Michael. $10?"
at least 4 bananas
Thank you.
@zachleat I'm really thinking about re-introducing MPAs back at work. Ironically, I'm trying to do this for an app which is internally called SPA.
@naiyer I wish you all good things in your endeavors!
It made sense at the time when it was started. Time has just moved on now
This a million times.
I'm currently using 11ty to build a 400+ page site, then adding a couple of 1-2K web components here and there to enhance the functionality. The actual 400+ page build takes, like, less than a second. Would probably take longer to build *one* page clientside, in a SPA.
You clearly haven't tried Yoinkslice yet. Blazingly-fast client-side rendering makes this a non-issue.
Yoinkslice???
everyone is talking about it! VC funded so it might self destruct in a few years but job hoppers needn’t worry about time of that scale!!
I can't wait for YoinkSlice Redux, where they discover MPAs and try to sell them off as something new and quasi-proprietary they came up with.
Already looking forward to exploiting my 5yrs of experience with YoinkSlice. With a bit of luck, recruiters will love me more than they'll ghost me!
The fact I'm only 80% sure Yoinkslice isn't real feels like an indictment of our industry
I was mildly curious if there was anything called Yoink...
10years old...
> HTML is for web documents.
> JavaScript is for web applications.
> The Yoink framework lets us code exclusively in JavaScriptis this how we find out @bradfrost.com is DevRel for YoinkSlice
I see a helmet
As they say - it felt like a good idea at the time.
True. We extrapolated too hard, the pendulum has swung too far.
But it's pretty much always like that, with any *good* idea.
